Services
The Law Offices of Maria E. Mena is proud to offer our services and expertise in the areas of the law listed below.
Child Support:
When married parents divorce or separate, or when only one unmarried parent has custody of a child, the "non-custodial" parent (the parent with whom the child does not live) usually must pay a certain portion of his or her income as child support. Legal actions involving child support can range from obtaining a child support order to collection of unpaid child support.
Criminal Law:
Criminal Law identifies conduct that is criminal or in violation of society's rules. It also prescribes the imposed punishment for the conduct.
Custody & Visitation:
When parents divorce, or when unmarried parents are unable to agree on who will have custody of their children, child custody and visitation issues need to be resolved.
DUI/DWI:
It is a crime for a driver to operate a vehicle while impaired by the effects of alcohol or drugs. In most states, the specific offense is called driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI). People convicted of DUI may face jail time and driver's license revocation.
Divorce:
The legal termination of the marriage relationship. Divorce law is concerned with the divorce itself and many related issues -- including child custody, child visitation rights, child support, spousal support (alimony), and property division.
Entertainment, Sports & Leisure Law:
Covers such areas as visual entertainment (motion pictures, television, cable and radio), performing arts (theater, music and personal appearances), media (new technologies, visual arts and publishing), and sports (professional and amateur).
Family Law:
Sometimes also called Domestic Relations, concerned with legal issues such as adoption, divorce, legal separation, marriage, paternity, custody and child support.
Medical Malpractice:
Medical malpractice law concerns all aspects of a claim against a medical professional for negligence or malpractice.
Motor Vehicle Accidents:
Include traffic accidents involving cars, motorcycles, and commercial trucks. Personal injury lawsuits arising from motor vehicle accidents are typically governed by the law of negligence, and figuring out who is at fault in a traffic accident is a matter of deciding who was "negligent."
Personal Injury--Plaintiff:
Compensates an individual who has been injured by another, either physically or emotionally. In addition to being injured, the plaintiff in a personal injury case must prove that the defendant caused the injury by actions taken or sometimes by actions not taken.
Traffic Violations-- Plaintiff :
Traffic violations occur when operators of cars, trucks, and motorcycles violate laws that regulate vehicle operation on streets and highways -- including speed limits, traffic signal laws, and reckless driving statutes.
