Attorney Mena Defends Client in Fox News Interview

Attorney Maria Mena recently appeared in an interview with Fox News where she defended the position of her client. Attorney Mena is proud to be one of two attorneys representing Jose Montano, a high-school student who is accused of raping a 14-year-old fellow student in Rockville, Maryland.

The case has recently garnered wide national attention for a variety of reasons, which Attorney David Wooten argues can be blamed on the “disgusting vitriol” from the current Presidential administration. The accused has been confirmed to be an undocumented immigrant, and President Trump’s campaign stance on the subject of illegal immigration has led to a significant increase in controversy on the subject. “The sensationalism and the outrage and the hysteria that’s been taking place… is getting out of control,” Attorney Wooten said.

When asked about the testimony of Captain James Humphries of the Moco Police Special Victims Division, which indicated that there is evidence of sexual contact and testimony indicates a lack of consent, Attorney Mena stated “They say they have evidence, but that’s her side. In every case there are two sides: my side, your side, and the truth.” Attorney Mena held firm in her belief that both she and her co-counsel David Wooten believe their client is innocent until proven guilty, and will fight to prove so in the upcoming trial.

However, it can’t be denied the case takes on a particular significance due to the immigration debate in the United States. Attorney Wooten emphasized that both he and Attorney Mena are criminal defense attorneys and they focus on “determining whether their client is guilty or not.” However, the social stigma surrounding the case will no doubt only further intensify as the proceedings continue, particularly with the issue of immigration once again taking a big chunk of the national spotlight.
