We're Ready to Go the Extra Mile for You
Assault is charged against someone who knowingly and intentionally causes or attempts to cause severe physical injury toward another person, whether through bodily contact or with a weapon such as a knife, firearm, or any object that can cause serious harm. Prosecutors will fight hard to convict you and ensure that you get the highest amount of penalties available. If you are convicted, you could be facing prison time, fines, restitution, and more.

What is the Difference Between 1st & 2nd Degree Assault?
In Maryland, assault is broken into two categories. Assault in the first degree is charged when serious physical injury is caused. Assault in the second degree is charged when physical injury is caused or reasonable fear of physical injury was caused.
Serious physical injury involves the following:
- Substantial risk of death
- Impairment or loss of bodily members or organs
- Any other permanent or long-term damage
Law enforcement officers who respond to an accusation of assault only need a witness statement and evidence of an injury in order to place you under arrest. Depending on the circumstances of your case, you may be charged with a misdemeanor or a felony and face varying penalties.
What are the Penalties for Assault?
First degree assault in Maryland incurs penalties of up to 25 years in prison.
Second degree assault incurs penalties of up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $2,500.
